People - Tan Sri P.Ramlee 1929 - 1973
Born Teuku Zakaria bin Teuku Nyak Puteh in March 22, 1929, P.Ramlee was a gifted Malaysian film actor, director, singer and songwriter. He also played musical instruments such as guitars, trumpets etc.
His big break came on 1st June 1948 when he was first spotted by Tamil film director B.S.Rajhan from Malay Film Production of the famous Jalan Ampas Singapore. His first cast was in the film Nasib (1949). His films are still famous and in demand with the Malaysian people who deemed it evergreen. His most famous films are the Bujang Lapok (Dowdy Bachelors) series.
During his career, he had directed and acted in sixty-six films and had more that 300 songs to his credit.
He was married three time, the last was to Saloma (Salmah Ahmad) in 1961. She was also a gifted singer and actress with evergreen songs such as Selamat Hari Raya, which are still played to this day.
P.Ramlee died at the age of 44 in 27 May 1973 due to heart problems. He was posthumously awarded the tittle Tan Sri in early 1990s. Al-fatihah.
